Last week I head the pleasure of photographing the young actress Ntsebo Lerotholi. Here are some of the results from the session.

3 Things to Consider for Your Profile Picture

I am a firm believer in social networking and general business networking. Just a few days ago, I was able to connect with old school friends, I haven’t seen in twenty years via Facebook. Twitter, Linkedin and Facebook connect me with people, I would not have met any other way. It is simply amazing!
There are [...]
What’s New At Jürgen’s Photography This Year?

At the beginning of January, I wrote a post called: “Whats’s coming in 2010?” It was a overview of what changed in 2009 and some general ideas, on what I have planned for 2010. Since I started Jürgen’s Photography, I always had the question in my mind on how I can make the experience of [...]
Beach Family Photo Shoot

Did I mention before, it is summer in Cape Town? It is the season of family portraits on the beach. I was asked by the Schiffhauer family from Switzerland to photograph them at the beach during their holiday in Cape Town. We met at Camps Bay during the early evening, while it was still warm [...]
Family Photo Shoot at the Beach

The summer holidays in Cape Town (and I know that there are people freezing in the cold in the northern hemisphere) are a busy time for family photography. Over the years, a growing number of overseas visitors contracted Jürgen’s Photography for fun family portraits. As you know, I love working on location with my clients. [...]
What’s coming in 2010?

2009 was an interesting year for Jürgen’s Photography. The Web site went through some major changes and brought back to it’s core, what it is all about: Good photography. A good friend gave me valuable insight and advice on how the online presentation of Jürgen’s Photography could be improved.
I started the year, using a flash [...]
11th Cape Town Photo Meetup
On the 9th of January 2010, we will meet for our next Cape Town Photo Meetup. We will start the year with a practical session along Table Mountain. Living in this beautiful part of the world gives us plenty opportunity for landscape and nature photography. It always amazed me in Cape Town, how quickly you [...]
Our 10th Cape Town Photography Meetup

We met on Saturday the 10th time for the Cape Town Photography Meetup. We used a new venue for the discussion meetup, which is closer to town and reachable for everyone from the northern and southern suburbs. Our theme was portraits and we looked at images we took at the 9th meetup and I also [...]
Nikon Festival – A Runner’s Day In Cape Town

I spent some time over the last few days to prepare a small movie for the Nikon Festival. The theme was “My day in 140 seconds”. For you Tweeple (Twitter people) the 140 seconds will make sense as we are restricted to 140 characters for our tweets. My idea was to combine things that I [...]
Mfuleni

I have been working on an assignment in the Mfuleni township (informal settlement) just outside Cape Town over the last few weeks. After I finished today’s work, I passed this shack, with it’s metal sparkle and straight lines. It was one of these occasions, where something looked totally out of place, while being totally in [...]
Jürgen’s Photography on Facebook

Facebook is one of the most popular platforms on the Internet. I have been very active over the last few months with the Twitter community and a good portion of the members of the Cape Town Photography Meetup Group, are also Tweeple. One of the questions, I had over the last few months was, on [...]
Portraits and headshot for life coach Mariella Norman

Blog – Mariella Norman – Images by Jurgen Banda-Hansmann
It may take a few seconds for the slideshow to load.
Mariella is a life coach in Cape Town and needed some portraits for her marketing material. Together with two colleagues, she booked me for a photo session in Camps Bay. Anneline Black, owner of Brushstrokes, did the [...]
Makhaya Ntini
Life is interesting. I don’t understand cricket. They don’t teach cricket at schools in Germany, at least when I grew up there. When I got a call from Psitek, one of my regular corporate clients and Marilize told me that they are organizing an event with Makhaya Ntini, the cricket player, I didn’t know who [...]
A Camera That Excites Me

There are two cameras, which got me excited this year. The first was the release of the Nikon D3 with it’s full size sensor and insane capability of shooting in high ISO. Finally, Nikon was ahead in the development and innovation in the DSLR arena again. What a great camera! I am still working with [...]
6th Cape Town Photography Meetup
Our Next Meetup

Where shall we meet? What is our theme for the morning?
Please send me tons of emails with ideas and suggestions. As usual, everyone is welcome [...]
Stillness in motion

My friend Scot Baston from the UK, challenged the members in the FB Traveltogs group with this week’s photo challenge. He gave us the theme: Stillness in motion. It has been one the more difficult photo challenges to photograph. Scot made it a bit easier, by explaining:
“..best described as calm in the face of disorder/panic/disturbance [...]
Battle of the Bands Part 3

On Wednesday night I was out again to photograph the preliminaries of the Battle of the Bands, Cape Town.
Kerry organised a truly diverse lineup once again. This time bands were:
Puck, The 357s, Cherry Vynil, Locnville, Fezray and Throatball. Good fun

5th Monthly Cape Town Photography Meetup

We met on Saturday for the 5th time for the Cape Town Photography Meetup. We welcomed two new visitors to the group and it is so much fun to learn from each other. The experience in the group ranges from the absolute novice to the very experienced photographer. We discussed a lot of good images, [...]
Corporate Photography – Architecture

Corporate photography involves often not only people, but also architecture. Sometimes I am invited to photograph buildings only as in the case for this car dealership. Buildings are different to people in the sense that they are normally much bigger and have a tendency to sit still. I can’t move the object, but have to [...]

Louw Bubeka – Portrait of a Jazz Musician

Last week I had the opportunity to photograph jazz musician Louw Bubeka on location in Nyanga, Cape Town. We photographed most of the portraits in the streets of Nyanga, which was good fun, but had it’s own challenges.
Learning Photography
How do you learn photography? Where do you get inspiration? Where can you learn new techniques?
I love reading and have been learning a lot about photography through reading books. The local library in my hometown had a good collection of high quality photography books. That was a starting point.
The more you practice, the better your [...]
